Rafting in white water.

Rafting in white water.

The lakeside village of Jinja, where the Nile runs upstream from Lake Victoria, offers white-water rafting.
With a ‘halfway point’ that marks the change from south-west to north-east, it’s a popular activity at the beginning or finish of a safari circuit.

Although there are several lengthy, difficult grade VI and grade V rapids, no prior whitewater rafting experience is necessary.

This will be the first time most individuals have ever gone whitewater rafting!
Safety boats and rescue kayaks are nearby in case of emergencies, and all the safety measures are followed.

Determining a route to take.

There are’mild’ routes available if you enjoy the sound of floating down the Nile amid wildlife and verdant woodlands but don’t want to be tossed around by the stronger rapids.

These routes provide just enough excitement without going over the most treacherous rapids.
For larger families and parties, there is also the option of a “family float.” These routes will avoid the most difficult rapids, and because these boats are bigger, they are more resilient to the waves.

Rafting on white water in the rapids of the Nile.

A 20-kilometer stretch of river is covered by the rapids in total; certain parts are wilder than others, but all are encircled by breathtaking landscape and the sound of singing, and there is the chance to swim in some of the calmer sections.
All rafting trips start in the town of Jinja.
The town is a center for whitewater rafting as well as other adventure sports, including kayaking, quad-biking, horseback riding, and bungee jumping. It is located just downstream from Lake Victoria, one of the most significant sources of the Nile.

For more sedate pursuits like birdwatching, the countryside surrounding Jinja is an excellent location.

In addition to taking excursions on Lake Bujagali, you can see species such as the crimson-rumped waxbill, white-backed night heron, and papyrus gonolek.

Where to go.

We would advise staying in Bujagali or farther down the river because many of the hotels in Jinja are more suited for business travelers. Jinja Nile Resort in neighboring Bujagali is a fantastic choice, which is a reliable, popular option, albeit slightly tired in terms of its decor.

A great choice downstream is Wildwaters Lodge, which is located beside the Kalagala Falls on a separate private island. It features eight cottages made of canvas and thatch, a natural pool that fits in well with the river in the background, a good restaurant, and the ideal balance of original traditional style and opulent facilities.

When to visit.

Traveling outside of these months is still fun if you don’t mind a little rain, but many people choose to visit Uganda during the drier months of late June to October and late December to early March. You may go whitewater rafting at any time of year.
