8-day Kenya wildlife safari via key sites in Kenya.

8-day Kenya wildlife safari via key sites in Kenya.

Overview

The 8-day Kenya wildlife safari takes you to some of Kenya’s most popular tourist locations, including savannah, lakelands, the spectacular Great Rift Valley, and mountain peaks. Some of these sites are home to various animal species such as giraffes, lions, wildebeests, elephants, and rhinos. The safari includes a variety of activities in sites including as Samburu National Reserve, Aberdare National Park, Lake Nakuru National Park, Lake Naivasha, and Masai Mara National Park.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi city.

Take your flight to Nairobi and leave the house. After arriving, check into the cozy MashPark Hotel to unwind before your safari.
Stay: After 40 Hotel/Mashpark Hotel

Day 2: Nairobi to Samburu.

Take a drive to Samburu and stop for lunch at the Trout Tree Restaurant, a distinctive eating establishment surrounded by a huge fig tree. To get to your lodging, the Samburu Sopa Lodge, which is situated on a hill inside the reserve with expansive views and accommodations furnished in traditional Samburu huts, you will need to take an afternoon game drive after you arrive in Samburu’s parched environment. You and your company are invited to a welcome supper tonight.

Travel time: around 6 hours.
Accommodations: Sopa Lodge/Ashnil Samburu Luxury Camp

Day 3: Full day in Samburu national reserve

Enjoy morning and afternoon wildlife drives in the Samburu reserve with your party. This relatively tiny reserve, which is less frequented than its more southern neighbors, is home to “dry country” creatures that are rarely seen outside the park due to its arid habitat. Grevy’s zebra, Beisa oryx, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, and long-necked gerenuk are its “special five.”

Place to stay: Sopa Lodge/Ashnil Samburu Luxury Camp

Day 4: Samburu to Aberdares.

Drive south towards the Aberdare Mountain Ranges. The Aberdare National Park was established in 1950 to conserve the wooded slopes of the old Aberdare Range, which is home to a variety of animals, including elephants and lions, as well as the black and white Colobus monkey and the gorgeous but rarely seen bongo, a horned antelope with striking white stripes.

8-day Kenya wildlife safari via key sites in Kenya. When you arrive in Aberdare, you will check in at the Aberdare Country Club before transferring to its distinctive sister property, The Ark, which will serve as your viewing location for the night. The Ark, located in the heart of Aberdare National Park, is designed like Noah’s Ark. It overlooks a floodlit waterhole and salt lick, which attracts animals both day and night.
Four observation terraces with balconies allow you to observe animals up close without leaving your room.

There is also a ground-level photo hiding and an on-call watching service to ensure you don’t miss anything. The rooms are referred to as ‘cabins’ and are spread across three ‘decks’.

Journey time: around 3 hours.
Stay at the Ark (or somewhere similar).

Day 5: Aberdares to Lake Naivasha

Eat breakfast before heading to Lake Nakuru National Park for lunch and a wildlife drive via Thomson’s Falls, a magnificent cascade on the Uaso Nyiro River. The park is a bird lover’s paradise, with over 400 bird species and habitats for lions, leopards, and Rothschild giraffes.

It also provides excellent opportunities to observe herds of white rhinos. Continue on to Lake Naivasha for the night and the Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge, which boasts monkeys, giraffes, and hippos living on its 150-acre grasslands.

Journey time: around 3 hours.
Stay: Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge or Crater Lake Tented Camp..

Day 6: Lake Naivasha to Maasai Mara.

After breakfast, head to the Maasai Mara national park, which is home to the inhabitants of the BBC’s ‘Big Cat Diary’ series as well as a plethora of other animals like as elephants, giraffes, hyenas, wildebeests, and buffaloes.

Arrive for lunch at your lodge, which dates back to 1962, and then go on an afternoon game drive before returning for supper. Keekorok is a town in the middle of the Mara, with wide lawns and beautiful river stone and cedar wood houses. Elephants and buffaloes frequently roam the land due to the lack of fencing. In the evenings, join your other guests in the lounge to unwind around the crackling log fire.

Journey time: around 5 hours.
Stay: Mara Concord Lodge / Enkorok Camp / Zebra Plains.

Day 7:Maasai Mara National Park

This may be the final day of your safari, but it might also be the most exciting since you can take a hot-air balloon safari to get a whole different view of the Maasai Mara. This is our top suggested optional experience in Kenya.

Wake up early and watch the balloon be readied, then take off and drift upwards as the sun rises, the vivid pink-orange haze visible for miles across the huge savannah and the wildlife wandering underneath you. This will be followed by a lavish Champagne brunch, which will be prepared for your party wherever you land. Then take a morning and afternoon game drive into the heart of this wildlife-rich reserve and a fitting end to an exciting safari.

Stay: Mara Concord Lodge / Enkorok Camp / Zebra Plains.

Day 8: Maasai Mara to Nairobi

If you go on to Kenya’s coast, you will fly directly from Mara to Mombasa in the afternoon. Otherwise, depart the Mara after breakfast and arrive in Nairobi in time for lunch.

Journey time: around 5 hours. You will then be escorted to a central hotel for the afternoon, where you may like to reserve a day room before your return trip home.
