5 Days Kibale and Bwindi Gorilla Trek
Overview
On this 5-days Kibale & Bwindi Gorilla Trek, you will experience the finest of a primates safari by tracking chimps in Kibale National Park and then trekking gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Kibale National Park.
Upon arriving at Entebbe airport, you will be received by our representative and a driver / guide, and transferred to Kibale forest, passing through Mityana town and stopping in Fort Portal for lunch. Proceed to Kibale Forest, arriving in the late afternoon. Dinner and stay at the Chimpanzee Forest Guest House.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking
After breakfast, travel to the park headquarters for a briefing before heading out to track chimps at Kanyanchu. This could take half a day. Primates in the area include the golden monkey, L’Hoest monkey, baboons, white and black colobus monkeys, grey cheeked mangabeys, red colobus, blue monkeys, and pottos. Other animals include forest elephants that differ from the common kind, enormous forest hogs, and a remarkable tree species. After lunch, join a guided nature walk to the Bigodi Swamp Sanctuary, a popular birding destination. The Great Blue Turaco and Papyrus Gonolek are easily identifiable among the other 137 bird species. There are also a variety of butterfly species. Later, return for dinner and overnight, as described previously.
Day 3: Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
After breakfast, drive through the Ishasha area of Queen Elizabeth National Park, known for its tree-climbing lions, to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, the home of the gorilla. Continue to Bwindi, stopping for lunch along the route and arriving in the afternoon. Wagtail Eco Safari Camp serves dinner and provides overnight accommodations.
Day 4: Mountain Gorilla Tracking
Have an early breakfast and then head to the park office headquarters with a packed lunch for a crucial briefing before trekking the gorillas through the dense impenetrable forest. You get to spend an hour with the gorillas after trekking for 2-8 hours. If you still feel strong, go for a short nature stroll to the local Batwa community. Check out the curio shops and the children’s school, among other things. If you are a nature enthusiast, another choice is the Munyanja River Trail, where you may see a variety of birds and butterflies. Return for dinner and overnight, as described above.
Day 5: Return to Kampala.
Enjoy breakfast as you end your 5 Day Kibale & Bwindi Gorilla Trek and transfer back to Kampala, stopping in Mbarara for lunch and, if desired, a photo stop at the equator. Drop you at Entebbe airport for your travel home, carrying memories of your gorilla trekking and chimp tracking adventure.
