Overview

5-Days Amboseli & Tsavo wildlife safari moves to Amboseli National Park in southern Kenya, which is well-known for its big elephant herds and spectacular vistas of Mount Kilimanjaro over the border in Tanzania. The safari continues through Tsavo West National Park, which includes mountains and hills for climbing, savanna bush and semi-arid desert scrub, acacia woodland, palm thickets, rivers, and the tranquil Lake Jipe, and Tsavo East National Park, which is a natural area of flat, dry plains with thorny bushes and swampy marshland famous for its large families of giraffes, gazelles, hartebeests, and zebras, as well as the “Big Five.”

Amboseli National Park, the second best-known wildlife park after Masai Mara, is located just north-west of Mount Kilimanjaro on the Tanzanian border. The Park comprises 392 square kilometers and is part of the considerably larger 3,000-square-kilometer Amboseli environment.

Tsavo West National Park is located in Kenya’s Coast Province and covers 9,065 square km. This park is more hilly and rainy than its cousin, with marshes, Lake Jipe, and the Mzima Springs. It is well-known for its bird species and huge creatures, including black rhinos, Cape buffaloes, elephants, leopards, hippos, and Masai lions.

Tsavo East National Park is one of Kenya’s oldest parks, located south-east of Kenya near the town of Voi n the Taita-Taveta District of Coast Province, inland from the Coast covering an area of 13,747 square kilometres.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi to Amboseli national park

Pick up from the airport at 8:30 a.m. and proceed south to Amboseli via the Nairobi Mombasa Highway. Amboseli National Park is a magnificent park that borders Tanzania. The park has a combination of marshes and dry savannahs, and it is a photographer’s dream with the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro in the background, as well as plentiful wildlife such as elephant herds, big cats, and a variety of birds – it is truly a must-see place!

You will arrive in time for lunch at Your Camp, which is located just outside the park, then late afternoon you will set out into Amboseli for a game drive to explore the park, following which you will return to your camp for dinner and an evening relaxing where you’ll be treated to traditional Masai dance!

Day 2: Amboseli National Park

Have an early breakfast and depart from camp at 0700hrs with a packed picnic lunch for a full-day adventure in the park. The park is home to a variety of animals, including jackals, spotted hyenas, olive baboons, vervet monkeys, antelopes, and the occasional leopard or cheetah. Observation Hill, a conical summit that is simple to climb, gives spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Lunch will be provided in the Observation Hills, which give clear views of the entire park and views of the spectacular Mount Kilimanjaro. Relax after lunch while watching elephants, buffaloes, hippos, wildebeest, and zebras graze nearby. Return to the camp at about 4 p.m. You might also make an optional visit to a  local Masai village.

Day 3: Amboseli–Tsavo West National Park.

Get up early to watch the dawn over Mount Kilimanjaro, then continue your safari to Tsavo West, which is approximately a 2-hour drive away. The road to Tsavo is primarily through wilderness, and you will see some intriguing lava flows along the route. You will stay at the spectacular Kilaguni Serena Lodge, which is a game-viewing lodge with its own drinking hole where elephants and other plains creatures may come on a regular basis.

You will arrive in time for lunch, followed by a late afternoon game drive and a visit to Mzima Springs, where you may view hippos, Nile crocodiles, and a variety of bird species. You will return to Kilaguni Serena for supper and spend the evening resting while watching wildlife arrive at the watering hole beside the lodge’s restaurant. You may spend the next day on game drives, relaxing at the lodges, or exploring the park with a picnic lunch.

Day 4: Tsavo West National Park to Tsavo East National Park.

Rise up around dawn, take a cup of coffee, and leave the lodge for an early morning game drive in search of animals. Return to the lodge for breakfast. Check out and head to Tsavo East, a plateau of open grassland with large baobab trees that will give you a sense of being out in the bush.

You will arrive in time for lunch at the Ashnil Aruba resort on the Galana River, followed by an afternoon wildlife drive and visits to Lugards Falls and Mudanda Rock. Spend the day exploring the wildness of Tsavo, including a visit to the Aruba dam, which attracts many kinds of wildlife.

Day 5: Tsavo East – Nairobi

Wake up early and go for your final game drive in the reserve at 0630hrs, followed by a late breakfast at the lodge. Alternatively, you may eat breakfast, check out, and go on a morning game drive before heading for Nairobi in the late afternoon, where you will be dropped up at the After 40 Hotel City Centre or MashPark Hotel on Ngong Road.

Be dropped off at your accommodation in Nairobi or at JKIA Airport for your return trip home.
