Kigezi wildlife reserve remains one of lesser known paradise with its diverse landscapes, vibrant wildlife, and unique cultural experiences located in the southwestern part of the country, covering 265sq km.

The reserve is a serene and biodiversity-rich habitat in Rukungiri district, established in 1952 as a wildlife sanctuary.

Kigezi wildlife also links up the queen Elizabeth park to the Congo Rwindi plains.

Kigezi offers a tranquil yet exciting escape into the heart of Uganda’s natural beauty.

The reserve is renowned for its wide-ranging habitats that include grasslands, woodlands, and savannas.

These ecosystems support a diverse population of wildlife, with notable sightings including Elephants, Primates, Antelope Species and Carnivores.

Kigezi Wildlife Reserve is a paradise for birdwatchers, having over 150 bird species recorded in the area, where some of the notable birds include Grey-Crowned Crane, Saddle-Billed Stork and Martial Eagle; Unique endemics; Nearby Echuya Forest offers sightings of Grauer’s swamp-warbler and other rare species, making it a prime birding destination.

The best time to explore Kigezi Wildlife Reserve offers its best during the dry seasons (June to September and December to February).
